Sometimes we hold hands, sometimes we don't. Some days we're so staggered getting to the table that half the food is gone before we give thanks. Some days we skip praying. It's not an obligatory thing, we just...say thanks. We don't choose mealtime to pray for all the world's ails. We don't mention every need and worry and desire at mealtime, it's just a quick little acknowledgement. Mealtime is not the only time we pray, so we save the heavy issues for a different time. Make sense? I just don't want it to seem like we throw a prayer out there at 15 second intervals, 3 times a day before we stuff our faces. That's not what prayer is about.
Anyways, back to the picture. Titus loves to pray. In the beginning, he seemed a bit confused about it all, but now he expects it. Before he starts eating, even if we don't, he'll put his little head in his hands and mumble some stuff, looking up with a smile at the end to make sure we were all watching. That's what I wanted to catch.
Just the other day we were all settling in at our spots at the table and he stated, "I-a pay(I wanna pray)."
I was so very humbled that my little two year old senses this rhythm to things.
